MU Health Care is starting to notify patients and partners that they’re working to reach an agreement with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to renew its contracts, which are set to expire on March 31, 2025. MU Health Care says the two parties hope to reach a mutual agreement to prevent disruptions for patients. Anthem also says it hopes to reach an agreement.

In a press release, MU Health Care chief medical officer Dr. Steve Whitt says they’re doing everything they can to continue participation in the Anthem network. However, Dr. Whitt says a new, fair network agreement is essential to MU Health Care’s ability to provide high-quality, local care to patients.

As for Anthem, they say they are continuing to work with MU Health Care in an effort to reach an agreement.

We are currently in talks with University of Missouri Health Care (MU Health) to extend our members’ access to affordable care at MU Health beyond April 1, 2025. We are concerned that MU Health wants to significantly increase costs for patients and their employers in Missouri. We will continue to work with MU Health to reach an agreement that maintains affordable access to care for our members,” an Anthem spokeswoman says, in a statement to 939 the Eagle.

MU Health Care encourages you to keep your scheduled appointments and procedures, and not to delay routine health screenings or important tests. They’ve established at dedicated call center that is available weekdays from 8 am until 6 pm to answer your questions: that number is (573) 650-5409.
