MU lays off 49 workers as budget tightens during pandemic

The first round of job cuts at the University of Missouri were announced Friday.

MU officials said the school has laid off 49 people because of revenue losses during the pandemic.

Nearly 200 employees have volunteered to take pay cuts since the financial hardships began.

The UM System placed a freeze on hiring and pay raises at all four campuses back in March.
