A Mizzou student gets arrested in connection with graffiti found near the Thomas Jefferson statue on campus.
MU Police say Ian Laird was released Tuesday after being issued a court summons. He is charged with second degree property damage.
Authorities found the graffiti on the sidewalk near the statue on June 21.
Critics have pushed for the statue’s removal because of Jefferson’s history as a slave owner. MU rejected those requests in June.
