Multiple crashes backed up traffic for at least 10 miles Wednesday on I-70 in Callaway County

A series of crashes involving multiple tractor trailers and vehicles closed eastbound I-70 near Kingdom City for several hours on Wednesday afternoon, backing traffic up for miles. Most of the crashes were near mile marker 153.

The state Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says traffic was backed up at one point for ten to 15 miles. MoDOT photos show dozens of tractor trailers stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

ABC-17 News reports there were four separate crashes in that area, involving five tractor trailers and three passenger vehicles. The backups were so long that people got out of their cars and spoke to other drivers on the interstate.

Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism tells KMIZ that one person was taken to University Hospital for moderate injuries.
