Boone County commissioners have voted to move a Sid Larson mural that offended some residents from the courthouse to Columbia College. It’s unclear when the relocation will happen.
Commissioners voted 2-0 in October to move the murals to a secure location.
Former Boone County Judge Gary Oxenhandler and attorney Rusty Antel asked for the mural’s removal, due to its graphic descriptions. The murals show some lynchings and whipping. But others, including attorney Bill Powell, say that those who wanted the murals removed are misinterpreting its message.
The issue drew a standing-room only audience in October. Commissioners heard about three hours of testimony that day.
