NCAA cancels remaining winter, spring sports; MLB, NHL on hold

The NCAA has canceled remaining winter and spring sports this academic year, over concerns about the novel coronavirus. That includes the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, and sports like baseball and softball.

Major League Baseball is suspending spring training games, and delaying the start of the regular season at least two weeks.

The NHL is pausing its regular season. The NBA did the same on Wednesday, after a player on the Utah Jazz tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association said Thursday it will hold the small-school state basketball championships in front of smaller crowds in Springfield this week. Each fan base will be allowed 150 fans. The large-school state quarterfinals are still set for Saturday, with essential personnel only allowed in the gyms.
