Columbia’s two newest council members will be sworn-in Friday afternoon during a special meeting at city hall.

First ward Councilman-elect Nick Knoth and Fifth ward councilman-elect Donald Waterman will be given the oath of office during the 5:30 meeting, which is open to the public. The first ward takes in downtown, and the fifth ward is in southwest Columbia. Outgoing council members Pat Fowler and Matt Pitzer will also speak. They did not seek re-election.

A mayor pro tem will also be appointed tomorrow.

The council will also declare the results of last week’s election, including the election to impose an additional sales tax of three percent on the retail sale of recreational marijuana.
