Columbia’s public works department has budgeted money to build a new salt dome in fast-growing south Columbia.
City manager De’Carlon Seewood says it’s about making city operations more efficient.
“It’s headed into an area that is up for development. So with the new homes that will be built, the salt dome will be in that area,” Seewood says.
The city’s salt dome is located on Big Bear Boulevard, which is near Rangeline in north Columbia.
Mr. Seewood announced the plans during his recent state of the city address. He says it’s about improving service to Columbia residents.
“This will make our response to winter weather events more efficient by preventing plow drivers from having to drive to different sides of town to refill trucks,” says Seewood.
He’s also announced that Public Works plans to begin the major Forum Boulevard improvement project in 2024.
