No arrests in weekend downtown Columbia shooting; reporter describes hectic scene near Ninth and Locust

Columbia Police need your help in solving Sunday morning’s shooting near Ninth and Locust streets. A 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were shot at about 12:20 Sunday morning, as numerous people were in the area.

ABC 17’s Ben Fein, who was on-scene when the shooting happened, describes it as a very hectic scene. He heard three loud bangs and saw some people ducking behind vehicles in downtown Columbia and others running away. Fein says he saw one of the victims lying behind him, outside of Booches. Fein reports a Good Samaritan took his shirt off and applied pressure to that victim’s wound.

Mr. Fein saw 15 CPD officers searching the area for shell casings, using flashlights. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to call Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.

Detectives are also investigating a second shots fired incident that happened early Sunday morning in downtown Columbia. Our news partner ABC-17 News reports ten shots were fired near Walnut and fifth street at about 5 am. No injuries are reported in that incident.
