Numerous prescription drug take back events scheduled across Boone County

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies are encouraging you to drop off your expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications Friday in Columbia.

You can drop off the medication from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Truman VA Hospital and Mizzou’s Student Center on West Rollins. Deputies are reminding you to not drop off needles.

Residents will have five locations to choose from on Saturday, across Boone County. You can bring your prescription medications to Columbia’s Hickman or Rock Bridge high schools, along with the Ashland, Centralia and Hallsville Police departments.

Saturday’s times are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Boone County Sheriff’s department says one of the event’s goals is to prevent these unwanted medications from falling into the hands of youth. Deputies are partnering with law enforcement agencies and with the Youth Community Coalition.
