There are many opportunities for you to attend Veterans Day events today across mid-Missouri.

One of the biggest Veterans Day events in mid-Missouri is the annual service at St. Peter Church in downtown Jefferson City. A mass will be held this morning at 10, to honor all of the Americans who have served in war and during peacetime.

There is limited seating inside the church, and masks are required. Veterans and service personnel are encouraged to wear their caps and/or uniforms.

Meantime, Columbia College will hold three Veterans Day events today on the main campus. A flag-raising ceremony will begin the day at 8 am on Bass Commons, and a 12:45 remembrance ceremony and national moment of silence will take place at Bass Commons. A military service tree-lighting ceremony is set for 5 pm.

Columbia College students have decorated Bass Commons and the Quad with hundreds of American flags and yellow ribbons. The school has served military-related students for almost 50 years. College spokesman Sam Fleury tells 939 the Eagle that 20 of the 38 Columbia College locations are on military installations.

There will also be a joint ROTC Veterans Day ceremony this morning at 11, at the Boone County Courthouse plaza in Columbia.
