Officer-involved shooting near Columbia

A deputy shoots a suspect after a burglary south of Columbia.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says two men broke in to a home on Schooner Road near Highway 63 and the KOMU TV studio at about 1 p.m. Monday. Deputies confronted them at the front door and the suspects ran.

After running through a couple yards, 24-year-old Deaundre Lewis-Gatewood allegedly pointed a pistol at a deputy. That deputy fired his gun, hitting Lewis-Gatewood. He has non-life threatening injuries, and is now in jail.

The second suspect is still wanted.
