Officials release cause of Missouri State Penitentiary Fire

A controlled burn is to blame for the fire at the Missouri State Penitentiary.

Fire officials said the fire department was helping with a prescribed training burn and one of the embers went airborne landing on the roof of one of the housing units.

It ignited the roofing and insulation, but was quickly extinguished.

No one was hurt during the fire.

This comes after the housing unit was significantly damaged in the May tornado.
