One for one food drive is Wednesday at Columbia Mall

The Commerce Bank One for One food drive sponsored by Zimmer Radio Group is Wednesday from 6 am to 6 pm at Columbia Mall. You’ll hear live reports on 939 the Eagle during all 12 hours of the event.

Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri President Lindsey Young Lopez tells 939 the Eagle that her 64 staff members are service-oriented.

“The staff here is truly the most amazing team I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. And as we on-board new people, as we recruit people to this work, we are looking for people for whom that mission resonates and is important,” Lopez says.

The One for One food drive raises money and collects food to help our neighbors in need, across 32 counties. The food bank says canned meat and canned fruits and vegetables are especially needed.

Proceeds will go to the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri, which uses all of the money for food. Food Bank president Lindsey Young Lopez tells 939 the Eagle that it’s been a challenging time for her staff members and volunteers.

In COVID-19 times as well, food bankers are considered essential workers. And this is hard work that we’re all doing on an ongoing basis, especially our drivers and those in the warehouse, those in our central pantry,” says Lopez.

A $25 donation can provide at least 100 meals. The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri serves about 100,000 people each month.
