Overnight storms knock power out to several hundred Boone County homes

UPDATE AT 8:22 AM: Boone Electric Cooperative crews have restored power to almost 500 residents across Boone County. There are still seven customers left without power in the Rocheport area, according to the outage map.

HERE IS OUR ORIGINAL STORY:

About 500 people in the Columbia and Rocheport areas are without power this (Wednesday) morning, after strong winds prompted severe thunderstorm warnings overnight.

Boone Electric Cooperative’s website says about 300 people are without power in the 65202 and 65203 area codes, while another 200 are without power in the Rocheport area.

National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis meteorologist Ben Herzog tells 939 the Eagle that 52-mile-per-hour wind gusts were reported overnight near Columbia.

The NWS issued two severe thunderstorm warnings for Boone County, and one for Cole County. Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued overnight in Audrain, Callaway, Cole, Cooper and Moniteau counties.
