(AUDIO) Parson supports sending federal agents to cities dealing with crime

President Trump is sending federal agents to big cities dealing with spikes of violent crime. Governor Parson says he supports the idea.

Hundreds of federal agents are helping in Kansas City after four-year-old LeGend Taliferro was shot and killed in his sleep in June.

“When we can get the federal officers in here like in Kansas City [with Operation Legend] to fight violent crime, why would we not want all the resources we could to go after violent criminals? That shouldn’t be a political issue,” Parson said to 93.9 The Eagle’s Branden Rathert on Thursday.

Lawmakers next week will look at bills that would add tougher penalties to people committing some violent crimes. Governor Parson called for the special session. He met with Columbia leaders on Thursday morning as part of his visits to different parts of the state discussing crime.

“We gotta fight back. We can fight the virus, we can fight [for] the economy, and we can fight violent crime all at the same time.”
