Pettis County man pleads guilty to murder-for-hire plot; “hit man” was undercover agent

A man from west-central Missouri’s Sedalia is heading to federal prison, after pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot that involved an undercover officer.

Federal prosecutors say 57-year-old Jon Mark Wilson tried to hire someone to murder the victim in a statutory sodomy case against him. That “hit man” was an undercover agent.

Prosecutors say Wilson paid the agent $2,000 and said he would pay another $5,000 once the murder happened. It never did, and Missouri state troopers immediately arrested Wilson in January 2019 after he tried to arrange the killing.

Wilson faces up to ten years in federal prison.
