A Columbia mayoral candidate says a prayer interfaith walk is planned for Sunday afternoon in downtown Columbia, to meditate and pray for peace and safety after the recent deadly downtown violence.

There have been eight shootings downtown since mid-September.

Mayoral candidate Tanya Heath says she appreciates all CPD is doing to reduce crime. She says taking time to walk in silent meditation and prayer can provide insight into lasting solutions to growing violence downtown.

Heath also wants to show support for downtown businesses and neighbors.

The meditation and prayer interfaith walk will take place Sunday from 2-4 pm, starting at City Hall and going towards Field House and eventually past Shiloh and Second Baptist Church, before sending at City Hall.
