Mike Murphy

Mike Murphy is the founder and president of CoMoBuz.com, a start-up online news site that is developing his vision of a community news media outlet in the post-daily newspaper world. Readers will find trustworthy and fair-minded journalism on a range of subjects to help understand, discover and participate in the Columbia community. CoMoBUZ.com chronicles the people, places, events and issues and the junction of culture, entertainment and politics in Columbia, MO.

CoMoBUZ.com recently became a news partner with 93.9 The Eagle, and the weekly Sunday morning radio program “Columbia BUZZ” hosted by Mike expands the reach and impact of the news content developed by both organizations. Mike has been in the newsgathering business for 40-plus years as a newspaper reporter, editor, publisher and executive. He is a much-awarded journalist and the newspapers he managed were frequent cited for excellence in press association and better newspaper contests. He finished his newspaper career with Gannett in 2020 as a division vice president and launched CoMoBUZ in 2021.

Mike and his wife Kathy live in Columbia and enjoy its amenities. They live in the heart of the city and can be frequently found on the MKT trail, MU sporting events, and local eateries.

Al Germond

Al Germond is a Columbia radio legend. He first got on the air announcing news at KFRU in 1966, became the station’s chief engineer, and in 1992 became owner of the station. Along the way he earned bachelors, masters and Ph.D degrees from MU. He built and or was involved in expansions of KPLA, KOQL and KBXR. He acquired AM1240, FM101.1 and FM104.1 in Jefferson City. He completed multiple tower constructions and built the current KFRU studio and transmitter site. Over the course of 30 years, he was on the air as part of more than 1,500 Sunday Morning Roundtable programs on KFRU.

In March of 2004 he sold the Columbia and Jefferson City radio properties to Cumulus Media. Since 2018, Al has spent much of his time in LaPlata, MO, where he is renovating two nationally-listed historic homes and owns several downtown commercial properties.
