The mayor says this is why you save for a rainy day.
Jefferson City’s Carrie Tergin says the impact of the May tornado and historic spring flooding will require a dip into savings.
“Luckily, we have about a 17% fund balance and that’s something that we have set forth in policy,” Tergin says. “We set it high for this reason.”
Tergin’s proposed budget for the 2020 fiscal year is about $65.1 million. That’s roughly one percent less than last year.
The council and the mayor are just beginning budget work. It needs to be finalized by November 1.
