You would no longer be able to text while driving or make social media posts while driving, under a bill in the Missouri Legislature.

Powerful House Transportation Committee Chairman State Rep. Jeff Porter (R-Montgomery City) will present his bill to a House committee Wednesday afternoon.

House Bill 1487 creates the offense of distracted driving. Porter, whose district includes New Florence and Jonesburg, says it’s a safety issue. Under the bill, if a violation of the offense includes harm or death to another person, it would be a felony.
