Prosecutor: No charges for deputies

The two Calloway County sheriff deputies involved in the traffic stop that resulted in the death of a Texas man will not face any charges. Special Prosecutor Roger Johnson of Boone County reviewed a state highway patrol investigation and determined that the deputies Justin Bax and Gardner Pottorff acted “lawfully” and “in defense of self and others.” Johnson said video showed neither deputy with a gun in his hand when Jonathan Beason began firing at them. Both deputies suffered gunshot wounds and were hospitalized. Beason died at the scene from the deputies’ return fire.
