Proud Boys member with Columbia ties heading to federal prison on gun charges

Federal prosecutors in New York say a Proud Boys member with ties to Columbia has been sentenced to 87 months in federal prison on firearms charges.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old Jonathan Cuney, a former Columbia resident and a convicted felon, had several thousands of rounds of ammunition, numerous guns and more than ten silencers.

Federal prosecutors say they also found handcuffs inside Cuney’s storage unit in the state of California. It contained an FBI ball cap, FBI badges and patches and DEA badges.

Federal prosecutors in New York say Cuney admits he joined the Proud Boys in 2018.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has identified the Proud Boys as a hate group.
