Leaders from MU Health Care and Zimmer Radio are thanking mid-Missourians for their generosity for raising more than $230,000 in Thursday and Friday’s radiothon here on 939 the Eagle and three other Zimmer radio stations.

“Our grand total for this year is …. $230,448,” Zimmer Radio operations manager Carson and MU Health Care advancement officer Kristen Fritschie told listeners early Friday evening, as volunteers and Zimmer employees applauded.

All of the money raised will stay in mid-Missouri to help patients at Columbia’s Children’s Hospital. The hospital serves children and adolescents in all 114 Missouri counties, and it’s the only facility in the area offering specialized children’s services such as neonatal transport, child life and music therapy, and a pediatric intensive care unit.

Former Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel’s GP Made Foundation contributed $10,000, while 939 afternoon host Dr. Randy Tobler donated $500 in memory of his father, who passed away Thursday. Many of our listeners donated one or two dollars, which is all they could afford. We appreciate all of the donations. The money will fund numerous things, including music therapy and distraction items like crayons and toys for children.
