Rare late-April snow expected in mid-Missouri

Forecasters say we could see a rare late-April snowfall on Tuesday.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Charboneau says the most snow should come late in the morning or early in the afternoon. Light accumulations are expected along and south of I-70, but it could make roads slick.

Even if it doesn’t seem like the snow is sticking on the roads, drive careful,” Charboneau says. “We could see some heavier snow rates for a brief period of time that can reduce visibilities and create some slippery conditions for a little bit.”

The latest in the spring that Columbia has reported measured snow was when 0.8″ fell on Apr. 20, 1904.

Charboneau says to expect below-freezing, possibly record-breaking low temperatures on Wednesday.
