Most Jefferson Citians will never forget where they were when the EF-3 tornado slammed into the city one year ago with 160 mph winds.
“My father-in-law’s home was directly struck,” United Way of Central Missouri’s Ann Bax says. “The next morning you kind of wake up and you’re hoping it’s a bad dream.”
Bax says the rebuilding effort is a marathon and could take several years to complete. The agency is still working with victims who lost homes and everything else in the twister late on May 22, 2019. It damaged or destroyed 500 homes and businesses.
