Rep. Veit against early primary registration bill

Would you like to have to declare your political affiliation months ahead of the election and then stick with it? There’s a bill to that effect at the Missouri Capitol.

Republican Jefferson City Rep. Rudy Veit doesn’t support the GOP-backed idea.

“I think there are a lot of people who don’t want to say in July, ‘I’m a Republican,’ or ‘I’m a Democrat.’ They want to keep an open mind to see who the candidates are, and then they want to make the best choices available,” said Veit.

The Missouri Republican Party has backed the issue in the past, especially after Democrat Claire McCaskill asked her supporters to pick a beatable opponent for her by voting in the 2012 U.S. Senate GOP primary.
