Rosenblum to represent downtown Columbia triple shooting suspect

The Florida man charged with murder for last weekend’s deadly triple shooting in downtown Columbia has waived his bond review hearing in Boone County Circuit Court.

939 the Eagle News was at the Boone County Courthouse for Tuesday’s hearing for 23-year-old Misael Covarrubias, who appeared via video from the Callaway County jail. Judge Kimberly Shaw indicated in open court that prominent St. Louis defense attorney Scott Rosenblum will represent Covarrubias, who remains jailed without bond.

A November 6 preliminary hearing has been scheduled. Last weekend’s early-morning shooting near Ninth and Broadway killed 21-year-old Stephens College senior nursing student Aiyanna Williams. The Columbia Police Department’s three-page probable cause statement alleges that Covarrubias fired his pistol 11 times in what court documents describe as “the busy, crowded downtown area.”
