Construction work will begin Monday on a $1.9-million roundabout at Columbia’s West Route K and West Old Plank road.

Columbia Public Works says contractor Sam Gaines Construction will be realigning the intersection to improve safety and traffic flow by replacing the skewed angle with a roundabout aligned with Maple Meadows drive. The contractor will also lower the hill on Route K to improve visibility.

Old Plank road is maintained by the city, while MoDOT maintains Route K. Columbia Public Works says funding for the project is coming from MoDOT and Columbia’s 2015 quarter-cent capital improvement sales tax extension.

Construction should be done by early winter, weather permitting.
