Some students will not be working in-person this week, but state lawmakers are. The new legislative session starts Wednesday.
Columbia state Sen. Caleb Rowden says a lack of in-seat learning has done huge damage to kids.
“We gotta figure out a way to fix that. The sooner those kids get back, the better for the kids, for parents, for everybody.”
Columbia Public Schools students have learned almost exclusively online since the coronavirus pandemic spread in March.
“I think we’ve missed the mark here in Columbia. They’re good folks trying to make the right decision. I just personally disagree with the decision that they’ve made.”
Rowden says on Wake Up Columbia his Senate colleagues are looking at bills that would strip local control on certain education issues.
