Rowden: Medicaid expansion will likely require supplemental budget in January

A top Missouri Senate leader doesn’t believe the governor will call a special session this fall, on Medicaid expansion funding.

Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden (R-Columbia) tells “Wake Up Columbia” that he thinks lawmakers can wait until January, before they would need to approve a supplemental budget.

53 percent of Missouri voters approved Medicaid expansion last August, and the Missouri Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that the 2020 ballot measure was constitutional.

The state Department of Social Services (DSS) says it needs another month-and-half and more employees to implement Medicaid expansion.
