Safety Net program for families of fallen first responders

It’s one payoff that families of a first responder hopes they never have to cash in.

SafetyNet provides funds to the families of law officers, firefighters and other responders who die in the line of duty.

“The money we use goes to pay for the financial support of those surviving spouses and children,” JCPD Detective Mark Edwards says.

Edwards says the financial support will be there whether the fallen officer is full-time or a volunteer. Safety Net serves both Boone and Cole counties. The program has never had to make a local payment.
