A settlement was reached this week in a wrongful death lawsuit involving a University of Missouri student from Jefferson City who was found dead at the residence of a woman accused of stabbing him and burning the body. Samuel Clemons, 21, was found in a burn pit at a home on Bentley Court in Columbia in January 2023. Emma Adams, 22, was charged with second-degree murder and is in custody.

The lawsuit brought by Clemons’ mother, Jennifer Riley of Jefferson City, alleged that Adams parents knew their daughter had long suffered from diagnosed mental health diseases and they still allowed her to live on her own in a home they owned, invite guests over and possess dangerous instruments. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.
