Sherry Paulo sentenced in DeBrodie case Tuesday

The Fulton woman who was behind the abuse and death of a man with special needs is sentenced to 17.5 years in prison.

Sherry Paulo pleaded guilty in federal court last November to not giving Carl DeBrodie the medical help he needed, then covering up his death. DeBrodie’s body was found encased in concrete in a Fulton storage unit in 2017. He had probably been dead for months.

Several family members have pleaded guilty in the case, but federal prosecutors say Sherry Paulo was the ringleader. Her sentence is in line with the prosecution’s recommendation of more than 17 years in prison, the high end on the range for her crimes.

“Mirroring their internal family structure, in which Defendant Paulo was reportedly a controlling matriarch, each of these family members followed Paulo’s orders in their professional capacities, as well,” U.S. Attorney Timothy Garrison said in sentencing documents.

Paulo’s husband, Anthony R. Flores, got sentenced Wednesday to more than 15 years in prison for his role in the cover-up. The couple’s son, Anthony R.K. Flores, got sentenced to three years of probation for lying to authorities about seeing DeBrodie alive.
