SIL Columbia meets fundraising goal after thefts

After thieves stole catalytic converters off Services for Independent Living vehicles late last week, the non-profit asked the community for help. The organization got more than $6,000 in donations in a couple days, enough for new, more secured converters, and cameras outside its building.

Spokesperson Jessica Macy says on The Mike Ferguson Show she is overwhelmed by the response, but not surprised.

“Thanks to the generosity of the public. We’ve all come to expect that in Columbia. We just have such a giving community. When there’s a need, people just step up and fill it.”

Services for Independent Living provides hundreds of rides a week for people with special needs and senior citizens in the Columbia area.
