Snow, wintry mix returns Tuesday night

The snow plows will be out again Tuesday night.

“There could be that small layer of snow, which shouldn’t impact too much. But if we do get that glaze of ice on top of it, I think that’s where we see the highest impact,” ABC 17 Stormtrack Meteorologist Brigit Mahoney says.

The forecast calls for snow to start in the Columbia and Jefferson City areas by about 7 p.m. Tuesday. Watch for 2-4 inches of snow along I-70 and north. Jefferson City is looking at 1-2 inches, but a higher chance for a little freezing rain.

“I think what’s going to be really tricky…it’s all depending on where we see the difference between that line of snow and freezing rain,” Mahoney says. “It all just depends on where this drier air lands.”

The wintry precipitation should be done by early Wednesday morning. The forecast calls for warmer and drier conditions for a couple days after that.
