The Southern Boone R-1 school district in Ashland has announced that Marceline’s Mark Ross will be the Eagles’ new football coach.
Athletic director Trent Tracy notes Ross went 42-7 in his four years at Marceline, which is in northern Missouri. Ross’ Marceline squad played in the 2021 class 1 state championship game.
Mr. Tracy also emphasizes that Ross impressed the selection committee with his views on program development, core values and his philosophy on what football can do for an individual, team and community.
Southern Boone will be getting new artificial turf for its football and soccer field. Voters in April approved a $3-million bond issue aimed at improving district facilities. The district says there are safety issues with the football and soccer field, caused by wet weather and usage in September and October.
