One of mid-Missouri’s fastest-growing school districts invites you to an October 9 community program, as it continues to consider the possibility of a four-day school week starting with the 2026-2027 school year.

The Southern Boone R-1 district in Ashland will hold the community forum on Thursday October 9 at 6 pm at Southern Boone’s middle school cafeteria. District Superintendent Dr. Tim Roth says going to a four-day school week addresses teacher recruitment and retention and improves work-life balance. He also says there would be increased family time.

He also says a committee is examining potential challenges with childcare and food insecurity, saying the district is exploring the possibility of district-run childcare on Mondays. Dr. Roth also says Southern Boone R-1 is working with community partners to expand the Southern Boone Buddy pack program.
He’s written a letter to parents noting that no decision has been made at this time. Enrollment in the Southern Boone R-1 district has jumped from about 1,500 a decade ago to more than 2,000 today.
