Southwest Columbia middle school to be named after John Warner

We have a name for that new southwest Columbia middle school.

The Columbia Public Schools board of education on Monday night voted to name the building opening next fall on Sinclair Road after longtime school resource officer John Warner. He pioneered the DARE program in the district, and worked to improve school safety practices statewide.

Officer Warner died in August. He was 61 years old.
