Opposition is growing to the location of a proposed new water tower in southwest Columbia.
The city wants to place it on Beulah Ralph elementary property near the end of Thornbrook Parkway. 939 the Eagle’s Mike Murphy, who publishes Comobuz, reports nearby residents are expressing concern about proximity to their homes and to the school.
Columbia’s Utilities director tells Comobuz that the city does not have a practical alternative location. Columbia officials have said the proposed project would improve water distribution infrastructure and would also improve service for customers in that area.
Columbia voters approved financing for the water tower project in a 2018 bond issue election.
