Special Olympics of Missouri’s Training site now open

It’s not often Jefferson City beats out Columbia for a big building project, but the Capital City’s Special Olympics of Missouri’s Training site is now open.

Board member Gary Wilbers, who chaired the fund drive, says the $18 million campus will serve more than 100,000 Special Olympians every year.

“We had land bought in Columbia,” said Wilbers. “So, we put out requests for proposals and this opportunity came about because the community came together.”

Wilbers says they’re still raising funds.

The Special Olympics complex will include adjacent ball fields when it’s all complete.

  1. I am trying to find a basketball team for my son. He does Special Olimypics for Wright City High School. They have no basketball team. He has autism and seizures.
