State ag director says farm damage assessments continue

It has not been the most pleasant weather for Missouri farmers. But state agriculture director Chris Chinn tells Missourinet they’ve managed to get most of the state’s crop in the ground.

“All in all, when you look at the horrible spring that we had, we really are doing fairly decent as far as planted acres go.”

Chinn says 91 percent of Missouri’s corn is planted, and 93 percent of the state’s soybeans.

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency workers are doing flood damage assessments now on land affected by this year’s historic flooding.

“The FSA employees are extremely busy right now, getting out there, trying to do these damage assessments as quickly as they can as that water is receding,” Chinn says.
