Should parents of kids with special needs be allowed to record meetings with school officials?
Most districts have policies against that. But state lawmakers are close to passing a bill allowing that for parents.
“I think this is a good policy. I think it would help parents that are in a difficult situation with a child, or multiple children, with a special need. I think this is something that we really need to get done,” says Rep. Chuck Basye (R-Rocheport), who sponsored one of the bills.
Basye says those Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings get pretty complicated, so having a recording of it would help parents understand better. The state legislative session ends on Friday.
