State lawmakers consider bill making impeachment tougher

(Missourinet) Should we make it harder to impeach state officials, including the governor?

A bill making that the case has passed in the Missouri Senate. It needs to pass the House, so it is a couple votes away from possibly becoming law.

Sponsor Ed Emery says his bill would keep impeachment to allegations of corruption or crime in office.

“I don’t think you will find, historically, a place where an official, an elected official, has been removed from office for something that didn’t happen while they were in office,” Sen. Emery says.

Former Gov. Eric Greitens resigned last year. He was in danger of getting impeached for things he allegedly did before he was elected in 2016.
