State leaders warn against breaking from vaccine distribution plan

Gov. Mike Parson said Thursday coronavirus vaccine providers must not deviate from the state’s plan on who gets the shot first.

“We have to be disciplined because right now, with the supply that we have, we have to put it to the most vulnerable people…and the people at the highest risk,” said Parson.

State health director Randall Williams said Thursday he spoke to one healthcare group that admitted to giving vaccines to people not eligible for it yet. He said the state will take action against providers who do that.

“When it comes to our attention that somebody is purposefully deviating from those [guidelines]… we do deal with that and we deal with that robustly,” said Williams.

Parson also said Missouri should surpass 600,000 doses given out by the end of this week.

MU Health Care started a mass vaccination clinic on Thursday at Faurot Field in Columbia. That continues on Saturday. The Linc in Jefferson City is hosting a mass vaccination clinic on Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both clinics are by appointment only.
