State Rep talks Jefferson City river port bill

Jefferson City’s river port will have to wait for another day.

A bill deeding 116 acres of state owned land over to the Heartland Port Authority dies on the vine at the Capitol as time runs out.

“A lot of people have done a lot of work on it, [but] that was something that was just too far down on the calendar,” Callaway County State Rep. Travis Fitzwater says.

Fitzwater adds he hopes the plan’s failure doesn’t tie up the potential barge port going forward.

The land earmarked for the port is east of Jefferson City near the National Guard’s Skelton Site.
