State results: Medicaid expansion approved in Missouri

Missouri voters approved Medicaid expansion during Tuesday’s primary election. The move clears the way for 230,000 additional people in the state to get health insurance, with the feds covering most of the cost.

There was an election upset in Saint Louis. Cori Bush beat longtime Congressman Lacy Clay Democratic primary. A Clay has held that seat for 50 years. Bush is a protest organizer who has the backing of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The St. Louis prosecutor who’s faced criticism from President Trump and other Republicans, Kim Gardner, won her primary. She and Bush are likely to win their jobs in the Democrat-heavy area.

Democratic state auditor Nicole Galloway and current Republican governor Mike Parson advanced as expected to a November showdown for governor.
