A longtime western Missouri state lawmaker will make a campaign announcement on Monday morning in Columbia.

State Sen. Rick Brattin (R-Harrisonville) served in the Missouri House from 2011-2018, and was elected to the Senate in 2020. He’s an outspoken conservative who’s championed the Second Amendment and property tax relief.

He’s sponsored legislation in the past aimed at property taxes. His bills would have authorized a property tax exemption for people who’ve owned real property for thirty years, and those who’ve owned property for ten years. The measures never passed, due to funding concerns from local school districts.

Brattin, who served in the Marines, plans a 10 am press conference at a Columbia hotel.
