Streaty-Wilhoit touts experience in school board race

A local retiree who got her doctorate at Mizzou has thrown her hat in the ring for Columbia Public Schools board of education.

Della Streaty-Wilhoit says her experience with kids at government jobs like the National Parks Service would help her on the board.

“Throughout my career, we have always had a component of working with young people and boosting their knowledge of STEM.”

Streaty-Wilhoit says she wants to see a strong focus on sciences, even early on, so that Columbia students can compete globally. She says she wants to enhance what the district already has going.

“I am quite pleased with the school board. I just know that I can make a difference, and I can have a small footprint.”

Streaty-Wilhoit is running along with Jay Atkins and Blake Willoughby for the two open CPS board of education seats on the Apr. 2 ballot.
