Strong winds in mid-Missouri knock lights down; no serious injuries reported

Wednesday night’s severe weather prompted numerous severe thunderstorm warnings across mid-Missouri.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Boone, Cole, Callaway, Audrain, Moniteau, Cooper, Howard and Randolph counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City issued 16 severe thunderstorm warnings on Wednesday, while NWS St. Louis issued others.

NWS Kansas City tells 939 the Eagle that 57-mile per hour winds were reported in Columbia, with 67-mile per hour winds in Sedalia. Moberly reported 56-mile an hour winds.

Storms also blew down a light at Seventh and Cherry in downtown Columbia. That intersection has since been cleared.

No injuries are reported.

There were no tornado warnings in mid-Missouri last night. The NWS in Kansas City issued two tornado warnings for several counties in northwest Missouri.
